Year: 2023-2024
The exhibition “the waiting room” debunks the myth of the effortlessly glamorous artist, seamlessly transitioning from creating masterpieces in the studio to making a refined appearance at the vernissage in clean white Nike Air Force 1.In truth, young artists juggle between administrative duties and creative aspirations, with the administrative often overshadowing the creative. This exhibition is dedicated to the everyday yet essential activities that shape the lives of young artists. It acknowledges their struggles and simultaneously celebrates their dedication to their art despite these challenges.
The works in “the waiting room” are a poignant testimony to the real experiences of young artists of our generation. Set in an apartment emptied for upcoming renovation, the exhibition intertwines the showcased artworks with the liminality of the space. The inhabitants have already gone - the space is left awaiting. By ontemplating the realities of art-making intoday’s times, “the waiting room” offers an earnest glimpse into the hidden facets of the artist’s life and questions how creativity can assert itself in a society dominated by systemic constraints.
